14 Low-Key Awesome Spots to Eat and Drink in Westlake

"Rudy’s seems to have dropped its former cheeky slogan of “The Worst BBQ in Texas” in favor of “Real Texas Bar-B-Q,” which is decidedly more accurate. The store, which is attached to a gas station, serves succulent, peppery brisket, meaty ribs, all the authentic sides, and some darn good breakfast tacos." - Erin Russell

Rudy's Country Store & Bar-B-Q - Review - Barton Creek - Austin - The Infatuation

"There’s a time and place to wait in line at a food truck for award winning brisket. However, there’s also a time and place to drive to a gas station and have a tray of freshly sliced barbecue in front of you in less than five minutes. When you’re after the latter, go to Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q. It’s the only fast food option on this list, and it’s perfect for when you want to avoid all the BS that often comes with getting barbecue in Austin." - Adele Hazan

Friends took me out for lunch at Rudy’s. It was an interesting set up with the restaurant being part of a gas station. The decor was very country and western themed. We had ribs, grilled chicken and sides were sweet corn, potato salad, beans salad and it coed with a loaf of bread. The briskets were soft, fatty but moist. It was full of flavor. The sides were great too. Food was served fast and hot. Definitely enjoyed eating here.

Google
Nothing quite hits the spot like a brisket potato on a humid spring day. Always can appreciate the consistency of Rudy’s. While it isn’t my number 1 bbq place, it always gets the job done and I know when I go what I am going to get. Rudy’s is a stable of my lunch eats

Google
Average BBQ. Everything is disposable - the cups, the silverware, the plates. The table side black pepper is coarse ground - great for cooking BBQ but not for the table. Turkey is good. Nothing is bad. Would be 3 stars if not for the gas station. And again: there is so much trash from every meal. I feel like knocking it down to 3 stars just for that. Service was great!

This place rocks. The meat here............ oh I mush ill be returning for sure . Brisket and chicken just fell apart. The potatoes are naughty 😋. The decor invites you in and gives you a good texas meat parlour vibe. Highly recommend 👌

The brisket tastes great. It’s family-oriented and you can totally tell you’re in Texas.

Google
This is truly great BBQ! The sliced brisket and ribs were so tender, so flavorful that you did not need sauce, but you will want it! We did delivery through a service. It came in time, packaged very nicely. Food was delivered warm. There was an option (FREE) to add plates, plastic ware, bread, pickles and onions. We got a generous amount. The potato salad was so creamy and tangy. The beans were so yummy and a bit spicy. If you don’t like spicy sauce, order the sissy sauce, the regular has a good amount of spice, not for the faint of heart or they would say non-Texan 🤣

The staff is awesome! They are always friendly and it's super clean in there. I love the BBQ. I usually get breakfast tacos but I've had the BBQ sandwiches before. The beans are amazing!! My fav is the cheddar jalapeño sausage wrap. They also have the best BBQ sauce and it's available to purchase so grab and go or stay and eat but make sure you try yummy Rudy's!!

Google
I LOVE RUDDYYSS!! Moist brisket is a must if you go here. They sell their brisket by the pound, so the price can vary. You should expect to spend 30 dollars if you want a good amount of meat on your plate. It's definitely worth it though.

Yelp
pros: I first had Rudy's when I lived in San Antonio twenty years ago. The brisket, pork ribs, and cream corn were amazing. The brisket was moist and the bark was crunchy. Pork ribs were full of flavor and had just enough tension when you bite into them, but easily pulled off the bone. And the cream corn was creamy and the corn was slightly "al dente". Everyone has their preferences, but that's how i preferred them. Fast forward 10 years later, I visited their Colorado Springs location. I ordered pretty much the same thing, and amazingly that's how I remembered it. Visited Rudy's in 2022 at their Austin location and now this year. It was "Deja Vu all over again." Amazing. If you want loyal customers, be consistent. Hands down, Rudy's is one of my favorite places. Cons: The buttermilk pie wasn't what it used to be. I also don't care for some of their pre-packaged selections.

Yelp
After an hour long fitness class, we worked up a good appetite for BBQ. We stopped at the Rudy's on Capitol of TX Highway. We ordered a half chicken aka half bird and some St. Louis ribs. The ribs practically melted in your mouth! The chicken was moist and Rudy's flavorful. We had sides of beans and cole slaw...both quite tasty. Our cashier was friendly and personable. Overall, a great end to a very long and active day!

Yelp
New to TX and the brisket & TX BBQ. The loaf of bread and choices are interesting. Interesting it's attached to their Good parking, pretty clean, good quiet atmosphere not pound TVs blaring. Good service for a TX BBQ. Kudos!

Yelp
My husband decided to pick up some Breakfast tacos this morning. He decided to stop at Rudy's. He bought me my favorite breakfast taco (Potato, egg, and bacon) with a green salsa. The taco was good. The combination of ingredients makes for a tasty breakfast. The bacon was semi crispy, the eggs were soft, and the potatoes were soft with a slight flavor. The green salsa was a little bit spicy but it added flavor to the taco. Overall, it was a good breakfast taco. My husband and I will definitely return in the future to pick up some tacos to go.

Yelp
Lunch on 11-26-24 we had a 1/2 pound of moist brisket, two small pork ribs, small potatoe salad, beans and the corn. The sides were great. I had to ask for a recut of the brisket as it was crumbly and gray with no bark the first time. The ribs and second cut of brisket were typical nothing great. It's convenient and decent but not worth the $50 we paid. Better options in my opinion.

Yelp
Food - 4 stars. Very good, moist brisket. I crave their loaded baked potatoes with moist brisket. All that butter, cheese, and sour cream! Mmmm. The cream corn is absolutely delicious as well. The beans are good. The banana pudding and peach cobbler are also very worthy of checking out. Service - 1 The last couple of times we have been here, the service has been awful. The guy behind the counter could have cared less and didn't remember all parts of the order. We had to return to the counter to get what was missing because we didn't notice it first. He was not pleasant. The last time he didn't give us any of the "fixins" or sauce to go, as it was takeout, and we had requested these items. They usually ask you if you want bread, onions, sauce, etc., but he had an attitude. Then we didn't even get what we requested. If the food was not so good, we would not return. Ambience - 4. It is perfectly fine for what it is. It's a little charming and a little rustic. We also very much enjoy their breakfast tacos. You really can't go wrong with the food just don't have expectations for the service, even though it is only counter service.

Yelp
I'm Business here from Ohio. Lived in Tennessee for a number of years and a big fan of the rendezvous in Memphis. I gotta say I was really impressed with the barbecue that was delivered to my hotel room from Rudy's. Let's talk about how they really did the right thing when it came to Delivery. Included extra utensils, barbecue sauce, pickles, onions, and some white bread. I was afraid when I clicked the original barbecue sauce on the Uber eats app That it was going to show up with one little 2 ounce serving. Whoever is putting the to go orders together definitely deserves a pat on the back. Got a half pound of the moist brisket, half pound baby back and a half a sausage. Really really happy with how well it turned out and I gotta say I was really impressed with the sauce. My only regret is not trying to pickles earlier since I think they would've been a great palate cleanser. Great job and I appreciate your entire crew taking pride in their work.....it makes a big difference.

Yelp
I live in Austin and have the choice of all these amazing barbecue restaurants, but keep coming back to this particular Rudy's. The service is great. The manager is always there greeting people. The prices are good. Barbecue is good, it's not as good as the other 5 star bbq you'll see in a Austin, but value for money, speed, and service, it's deserves the 5 stars. Still better than any barbecue I've had in other state This has a permanent place in my regular restaurant list. The breakfast tacos are a steal and the best Secret in Austin. You can get a giant taco for like 4 bucks. My favorite banana pudding so far.

Yelp
Great food, flavor, value!! 1/4lb moist brisket, 1/2 jalepeno cheddar sausage, small 3 bean salad, peach cobbler and all the fixings (bread, tortillas, pickles, bbq sauce) for $20. Everything was super fresh and tasty. Enough for two meals for me. Why pay more when Rudy's consistently delivers deliciousness?!?!

Yelp
It's a great place to stop at for a quick & tasty meal. Friendly staff & helpful. Plenty of Southern hospitality. Will return for brisket of course.

Yelp
This place is always great to go to. The best part of Rudy's that separates them from any other BBQ spot is... the cream corn. Yes, I said it was the cream corn. I love it so much here. I used to eat so much as a kid. I know it's a BBQ joint. On second the meat is always good. The moist brisket is a go-to. It is one of the cheaper routes of getting BBQ here in Austin.

Yelp
I'm new when it comes to Texas BBQ, so I was excited to try Rudy's. You order at a counter, where the service is fast and efficient. There's a good number of tables, with an additional patio area. To the side, there's a station where you get utensils and any fixings like pickles and onions. Each table also has two of their signature BBQ sauces, which were great. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a side of coleslaw, and the flavor of the pork was delicious. It was juicy and paired well with the sandwich bun. I would definitely come back and try out more of the menu.

Yelp
They do it right. Love this chain. I can always depend on a great meal at a fantastic price. Staff are super cool and everyone in group loved the meal.

Yelp
I like the country store/ Gas station setup. Plenty of seating in the place. Good food selection and the food was very good as well.

Yelp
You know as soon as you turn up on this place that it's going to be at least legit and very good. I don't know about the rest of you but in my adventures there is a high correlation between great BBQ and being part of a local gas station + grocery mart. As soon I realized that Rudy's was indeed one of these I definitely was very optimistic about what was to come. Inside the expectations grew as everything about this place screamed Texas. The miscellaneous goods, the ridiculous scale of your average portions of meat on the menu, the diabetic overload of pudding dessert options, and the local accent and dialect of the guy at the counter that can be best described as "Boomhauer"; about the only thing I understood from this guy was him asking me "look good?" when the giant portion of meat was flopped on to the scale after it was cut up for me. The number of boxes being ticked here was off the page. The actual meats were pretty good but not spectacular. I enjoyed the brisket and chicken but felt like they both required sauce to get the taste to where they needed to go, and even then it wasn't my favorite. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination but not so mind blowing as to make Rudy's a default choice over trying other fine purveyors of meats in the region. I tried both the standard sauce and the emasculating "sissy" sauce, and both were good although the latter suggested that the main sauce was hot and it most certainly was not compared to anything else that would actually have hot in the name. I enjoyed my meal. I would say that one of my companions was so enraptured by his meats that he literally kept eating and eating while we're there and didn't really talk at all for about 20 minutes so, there's another non verbal point of view on the experience for you.

Yelp
This place has been around since I was a kid, and all I remembered from it was the breakfast tacos. So, during our visit here we went there just for that. The staff were super spunky and friendly that morning, which was a nice environment to start off in. We got the 4-item breakfast tacos and coffee. The pecan coffee was brewed perfectly and tasted really great. The tacos were somewhat what I remembered--a little greasy, but stuffed too full for the tortilla (that's a good thing) and full of flavor. The salsa was great to add on. Two tacos was enough to satisfy us for sure. If you're ever in need for a breakfast taco spot, Rudy's is always what I would recommend!

Yelp
It breaks my heart to write this, but we were let down in a huge way by Rudy's today. This location in particular has been the go-to BBQ for my family in the Westlake area since they opened in 2001. It was always a place we could count on, and the pride behind the quality of what they were serving was clearly evident. My brother worked at this location as a cutter in the early 2000s and always felt confident standing behind their product even comparing it to high-end, trendy newcomers such as Franklin and others. Today we realized the glory days are over. I was picking up a variety of offerings for a family gathering Sunday: My Mom's birthday. We trusted that we could count on Rudy's but the food I brought home today was a disaster. Upon entering the restaurant my brother commented that the "cutter cam" had been removed. It had always been a unique and entertaining point of pride. He also noticed that the "moist" brisket "didn't look right" as they were preparing our order... What in the past had been very precise slices of glistening, smoke-ringed perfection, today presented as a pile of dry, shredded, devoid of color, unappetizing, salty mess. He also commented that the ribs didn't "look right". He thought: "oh well it may just be an 'off' day today." Again his foreboding observations were unfortunately spot on. The ribs were totally dry and tasteless. It seemed as if they had been prepared in an oven and then left under a heat lamp for several days. The membrane was haphazardly left on and the ribs were a drab grey/beige color and very overcooked. We were shocked at how poorly they presented. Almost inedible. The server informed us Rudy's no longer include sauce with the order (!) With an order of this size: this should have been the ultimate red flag, but instead we faithfully purchased a large bottle of BBQ sauce for $10.50 in addition to our food order that was north of $130.00! When we got home we discovered the servers had failed to put the bottle of sauce we purchased in our bag so we were sauceless!: with a huge order of dry, and frankly disgusting non-BBQ. We were crestfallen and slightly humiliated to bring this home to our family. Rudy's brisket used to be so juicy, flavorful, and gorgeous: you didn't even need sauce! (as solid TX BBQ is supposed to be served!) How the mighty have fallen... We were informed Rudy's is under new management (ownership?) and it's painfully obvious a lot of corners are being cut. Another great tradition and solid place has collapsed: like so many other legendary establishments that once made Austin so unique and special. I can't express how bummed we are.

Yelp
I've been going to Rudy's since 2000 when I first started coming to Austin. With my travels with work, I've probably eaten at all of the locations in Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and all over Texas and the 360 location was my favorite location of all time. My wife agreed. Well recently within the past month (2024), my wife and our daughter decided to go eat at Rudy's so we got our normal 1lb moist brisket, rack of ribs, sausage and chicken along with the sides. We were excited and we always over order so we can have leftovers at home. Well while we were eating I found that the ribs lacked flavor, were tough and the brisket wasn't moist, didn't have the same bark and wasn't very flavorful and/or good. We were very displeased with the food. While we were finishing up an employee came over and asked how things were. Very nicely, I asked them if they changed owners, or management and he said yes. We told them that the food was terrible and that I had been coming here for 20 years. He stated that the recipes are the same other than they don't soak their brisket in milk anymore but it should be the exact same. I let him know that I wasn't pleased and he left and never returned. So we took our food, threw the rest in the trash and left. So yesterday I decided to email corporate and let them know my complaints. I received a phone call today apologizing for my experience and he stated he hoped I'd return again. Well honestly for the amount of $$ BBQ and food in general costs, I won't be spending my money any more at Rudy's. Very disappointed. Glad that someone from corporate called, but surprised they offered me nothing but an "I'm sorry".

Yelp
We ordered the barbecue to go. It was yummy and we especially loved the Brisket, pulled pork and sausage. The banana and chocolate puddings were delicious too
google avatar

Antonio G.

Yelp
Very average barbecue if you say this barbecue is good you are a liar and have never tried the good barbecue like Franklins and Interstellar. Also, tacos are average but at least Rudy's isn't like Taco Deli and up charge for mediocre tacos
google avatar

Yelp
I have enjoyed Rudy's since I moved to Austin in 1999. I had my elderly parents here to visit for 2 months in April and May. I have brought my momma here many times before but it was my daddy's first time. He loved it. Like a little kid. He had to use the hand washer and all. Lol. Brisket is always on point and consistent. Love it that we could get Liane normal and extra moist. I always love the food here. It's just consistent. The people are friendly, always welcoming at the door. You can't go wrong with Rudy's . Period. End of story!
google avatar

Dawn S.

Yelp
Haven't been in awhile but had a meet up with my class of kindergarten students. It was a perfect cloudy, cool morning here in Austin. I love that dogs are allowed on the back patio. My students were able to meet my dog, play on the playscape and run around in the large grassy field. I didn't get a pic of the food but Roxie and I shared some Turkey. I am a pickle and onions kind of gal so I'm always thankful for that little "salad bar" of sides. Thanks Rudy's!
google avatar

Yolanda P.

Yelp
I don't know how this was still in my drafts (from years ago ahhhh) but this is my go to spot when I hit Austin. Honestly there's not a lot to say but I have one word for you. BRISKET. Omgeeeee SO GOOD. This is my first and last stop when I'm in town. I always fly back home with a couple of pounds of brisket. It is unbelievably butter, juicy, and flavorful. GO HERE...And I mean RUN.
google avatar

Dane S.

Yelp
My family and I have been eating at Rudy's for years. I always stop for their breakfast tacos when I get a chance. The chopped BBQ and jalapeño sausage are top of the line in flavor. The location on 360 in Austin has a beautiful patio..
google avatar

Spencer R.

Yelp
I'll start by mentioned that I am not from Texas and have only been to the beautiful state twice before this so I am familiar with Texas bbq but this place raised the bar! I must have looked like an outsider because the manager called me out and asked if I have been here and if I want to try a few things. The couple in front of my in line told me the creamed corner is amazing so I got one and it was the best creamed corn I have ever had, hands down. I ordered 1/2 brisket and 1/2 Turkey, they are for sure top three in both categories and paired perfectly with their bbq sauce (the regular one, not the sissy one). The smoke flavor really pops and the meats were moist. All in all, great bbq and friendly staff. I will be back before this trip is over.
google avatar

Lauren V.

Yelp
Finally paid a visit to this location after a very long time, and it was pretty much as delicious as I remembered. The brisket was tasty, the cream corn was epic and the bread (the thing I missed most of all) was great. We ordered to-go so we could bring home dinner for the family, but there was plenty of parking and seating if we had wanted to stay a while instead. My main critiques were that the brisket, despite being labeled as "moist" was fairly dry (however some bbq sauce quickly remedied that problem for me) and also both the food and service was a little cold this time around. The man at the counter who took our order made us feel like we were a total hassle/annoyance. He talked to us in 1-2 word sentences and wasn't very helpful when we asked questions. Meanwhile, I could see that the other counter workers were being totally cordial and friendly to the other customers, so it felt odd to us and we left slightly less happy than when we entered. Overall, I'll probably be back again eventually because of sentimental reasons and because I do enjoy the food, I just hope they can continue to improve so I can come back and have a better experience next time with my family when I'm in town.
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
When we walked into the store we knew we were in the right place. It was just the tantalizing smell of BBQ in the air. I have found you definitely get the best BBQ at places with a gas station attached. Just like in Kansas City at Joe's. The line went so fast I barely had time to think about what I wanted to eat. I ended up with 1/2 pounds of regular brisket, the sausage, and coleslaw. The coleslaw being more of a vinegar base that I normally really care for, but it was tasty, and I ate every bite. The sauces were available in small cups for take out, or in large bottles on the tables. This place is nothing fancy, but has good Texas BBQ. Our team was only in town for five nights. We found our way back for a second night, foregoing other places. Another member of the team had the baby back ribs, and enjoyed them enough for a repeat. The second trip I had the "moist" brisket. I also was quite tasty. My next trip to Texas will be to El Paso. The team member who had the ribs will be going with the new team on this trip. He is ready for a repeat trip as am I.

Yelp
Good food. Good seating. Relatively reasonable prices. Service was just ok. Thy need to hire more engaged staff. I know that there are staff shortages but, with what they charge for food, they can afford to pay a few dollars more per hour and hire better quality staff.
google avatar

Leanne M.

Yelp
Rudy's had delicious brisket and their creamed corn and coleslaw were fantastic sides!
google avatar

Sea D.

Yelp
Had great meal with my dad and best friend. We sat on the patio when it was 90 outside. The patio had their plastic drops down and fans going it felt 70 in there. It was a great meal!
google avatar

Jose S.

Yelp
Second time in a row I eat at this location. I have noticed the brisket meat is very dry. I have always ordered lean, but it is always just perfect. I'm not sure what changed, but for Rudy's standards, it is not meeting them. Sausage was great. The cold slaw was dry and not tasty, so I do not recommend it. I can say that I would not bring an out of town guest.
google avatar

Patrick P.

Yelp
I was in town here visiting friends and as we were running errands and taking care of their children's music lessons- we popped in here to get a bathroom break, gas, and some rub for our friend who loves their turkey seasoning. I was advised that their sausages and other items are homemade, and the stand showed many options. So many people were coming in just to get a quick bite and head back out, others stayed for lunch and ate out back on the picnic tables. I grabbed a jalapeno cheddar sausage that was wrapped in a tortilla, along with both their regular and sissy bbq sauce. Walked out back, and had immediate order regret as my friend's son got a pig in a blanket. But my sausage was so beautifully done. Perfectly cooked, balance of flavor was nice- not too spicy, cooked just to the right char. Along with the sauce it didn't last long. My company does pressure sensitive label material (We don't print- just labels with adhesive on the back) so I was looking through their offerings and I will try to reach back out to them to see if they have any interest in sustainability or if they need anything when it comes to their labels. I should have left a card, but I was just so into the food I forgot. You know it's a good spot when you see first responders coming through and getting stuff to go. We hit the jackpot and I will definitely be back when I am visiting so I can see about getting a bunch to take back home with me. Support Small businesses! I'll be back, to also get a couple bottles of sauce with the seasonings.

Yelp
Amazing food!! Definitely recommend coming here for anyone looking for great BBQ in Austin area

Yelp
Love Rudy's but currently a user cannot get to the counter due to placement of coolers. Arghhhh
google avatar

Beau S.

Yelp
My favorite brisket in Austin. It's a must stop every visit. Was able to have the breakfast tacos for the first time and of course they were amazing.

Shannon S.

Yelp
I'm going to say this could be the best BBQ I've ever had. The lean brisket was amazing and the ribs were epic! Sauce was very good. Great creamed corn and new potatoes. Banana pudding and sweet tea were great as well. Good atmosphere and great service! Saving this place as a favorite.
google avatar

Brad L.

Yelp
Tried and true BBQ. Better than most, consistently good. Creamed corn is a must, as is a glass of iced tea. I usually go for the moist brisket, a half link of sausage, and occasionally, some chopped. Love their pickles, and cherry peppers. Actually like the sissy sauce more than the regular. Hint: tilt the bottle to get the best pour. Rudy's is a regular stop on my favorite restaurant tour. Great inside during bad weather, and out on a picnic bench in more pleasant temperatures. Where's the Gold Star for this one, as Rudy's deserves a top notch rating! Love me some Rudy's BBQ! Second hint: but a small bottle of Rudy's bbq sauce to keep at home, it's goes great on burgers!
google avatar

Jamie P.

Yelp
Rudy's BBQ is consistently delicious, you can get it quickly, and the prices are reasonable. Their moist brisket is my favorite alongside their creamed corn. I eat that creamed corn like it's dessert. I have no shame. We have ordered at their walk up counter and had Rudy's delivered recently. They always pile up your bbq order with sides of bread, pickles, and onions if you want them. Their sauce is a little spicy and tangy. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
The worst meal we had at Rudys the food was cold I took the baby back ribs back it was very cold and they brought me back ribs but not what we paid for. The only good food was the sweet corn and butter potatoes then noticed the guy with the clipboard checking temperature on the food. Next time we are in this area we will drive to Don"s BBQ in Oakhill. I have a Nephew that is a BBQ Pitmaster and vented out to him about this meal. The ribs the guy came back with was not baby back ribs not sure what it was. Was not good.

Yelp
My last trip to Rudy's! I give up. Your breakfast tacos can be exceptional sometimes but the past few times they were disgusting! Filled with pieces of greasy bacon. Tasted like eating bacon grease! Again long line at 9;30 due to Mother's Day I Suspect but NO line for breakfast only. Large bbq orders move very slowly! No more orange hot sauce. It was very good the red and green they now offer are not any good at all! This is without a doubt the worst run business I have ever frequented. Now that the tacos no longer justify putting up with everything else I will never be back.

Yelp
Best BBQ in Westlake Hills. When I order extra dry and lean brisket Rudy's always makes it perfect.

Yelp
Honestly the worst prime rib I've ever been served. So dry and overcooked. What a waste of $30. Don't even want to eat it. I've had good prime rib from here before. I don't know why they chose to serve something so terribly made. Pretty disappointed I need to go buy food somewhere else cause this was inedible.

Yelp
I was in town to visit a client and wanted to have some of Austin's famous bbq. I had no clue where to go so one of my friends suggested Rudy's. Good choice. Everything was great. The brisket was juicy and plenty. They included 4 pieces of white bread, pickles, onions, and BBQ sauce (which the brisket didn't need -- it was perfect as is). I got a side of potato salad. It was good -- and included egg. There was a limited choice of sides, but this was all pretty standard. I washed it all down with a bottle of Big Red. The restaurant was clean and plenty of tables. It had a fun western theme. I am pretty picky about BBQ (something you really can't find in Los Angeles), and this hit the spot.

Yelp
**COVID-19 takeout review** Rudy's BBQ is one of our favorites ever since we stumbled across this gem when we stopped by for gas. Yesterday, we placed an order for the picnic family pack which serves about 3-5 people. Order was ready within the 15 minute window for pickup. Their moist brisket is mouth watering as is their St. Louis Ribs. The family menu is reasonably priced - seriously a great value; bang for your buck, and the food is just too good. Overall experience at this location has been terrific - very pleased with quality of food and service - highly recommended!

Yelp
First stop on our vacation! Rudy's is an unassuming barbecue restaurant attached to a gas station. We got a half pound of extra moist brisket and a half pound of St. Louis style pork ribs. We sat outside and devoured it, and then my fiancé went back in and got another half chicken and a side of baked beans and a banana pudding. Everything was delicious - I thought the extra moist brisket was a little on the fatty side, but my fiancé loved it. If we had to rank the meats in order of how delicious they were, we would put the brisket first, the ribs second, and the chicken last. Do not forget to get the banana pudding!!! I have never had such great pudding. Be warned: if you sit outside, there will be a lot of flies. Just be prepared, and have a great time!

Yelp
I like that you can ask for the brisket to be moist, and they'll give you the moist cut. Sides and desserts are standard and good, from the cole slaw and potato salad to the banana pudding. Bread is just your Ms. Baird type of bread, nothing special. But the biggest surprise here, at least for me, is their delectable chicken.

Yelp
There have been some COVID changes (a couple of which I hope they keep) but the food remains delicious. I'm a big fan of Rudy's. As a chain, they are consistently serving quality food, have a clean environment and meet or exceed expectations. The BBQ is top tier and can compete with places much pricier and without the long wait of certain 'in' joints. I heard they actually closed a franchise that wasn't living up to expectations (?). Maybe its Rudy's lore, IDK. This particular Rudy's is great. The service is friendly and awesome. Just like other Rudy's you order by weight at the counter. If you need any help at all the servers are glad to fill you in and adjust your order to your 'eyeball' liking as they place the product on the scale in front of you. COVID-wise the drink station is spotless. The pickle/onion station has pre-packed containers now instead of being a DIY bar which is actually a big time saver. Some suggestions for food: Order the 'moist' brisket (delicious), the St. Louis ribs are dry rub and THE BEST. And, a very overlooked protein, their TURKEY is so juicy and flavorful! Give it a try you'll love it! By the way, Rudy's is a gas station and convenience store, too (as it was in it's origin, I believe). Oh, and don't be shy with the sauce -- it is peppery, savory deliciousness. They also have a milder sauce called "Sissy Sauce", but whatever lol

Yelp
When I asked a friend's boyfriend, who's a native to Texas, where to eat while in Austin, he said to go get brisket from Rudy's. When I arrived, I was a little skeptical... it's a HUGE chain restaurant and this particular location was attached to a gas station-type market. I expected it to be meh, but to my surprise the brisket was actually REALLY good!! My sandwich had some of the burnt ends on the edges which really topped it off. The meat was super tender and fatty in the good way, and not even tough to chew. Go to Rudy's if you're in Austin, it's totally worth it
